Issues upgrading from XP Home to Pro

Hi,

I'm running XP Home SP2, and I want to upgrade to Pro. Only Problem is that
my XP Pro Installation CD is an older one with SP1, and the notebook I'm
upgrading came with XP Home SP2 already installed. That means I cant
uninstall SP2 to do a smooth transition, at least I don't think I can
uninstall SP2. (If it's any help, the notebook is a Gateway 7510GX)

The only way the CD says that I can install it is by reformatting the whole
entire drive, and losing all my drivers and files in the process.

Is there any way to bypass this and get Pro? The files I can always get
back, but I'd very much like to have my drivers.

Thanks,
Kevin

I was looking around on other's issues, and it seems that mine isnt that
uncommon. So I looked on their replies, and saw this slipstreaming idea.

After I read it, I got the jist of it except the last part on the
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7262 explanation of it.

"Run Nero. take CD-ROM (Boot) in the New selection. In the Boot menu
choose Image file and browse to that D:\boot\image1.bin (you will have
to select 'show all files') then check 'Enable expert . . . ', and
select No Emulation, and in the bottom box set 4 Sectors. Click New for
Nero's standard compilation. In that open the D:\XP folder to show what
the CD contents are and drag the lot onto the compilation "

Anyone care to explain?

Thanks.

P.S. I don't really feel like spending $300 just to get XP Pro SP2 when I
already have a cd of XP Pro.

Thanks though, Ted.

No need to spend $300, since you qualify for the upgrade version. That goes
for around 150 - 160 on sale.
