I have a windows 8.1 machine with 16 gb ddr 4 and a 6700k i7. My brother bought a new I7 7700k a few weeks ago and when he did they didn't have any of the new 270 motherboards so he bought a Gigabyte 170 gaming 5 this is the same board I have. He didn't know he wouldn't be able to boot the machine since the bios did not support the chip. So I took out my 6700k and installed it on his MB and flashed bios and then put his 7700k in and he is running fine.
Since I did this my machine now runs real bad in games. Very slow lots of frames dropping and even audio stuttering. Doesn't matter how graphically intense the game is. It is just as bad in Mass Effect as it is in League of Legends. They are like micro freezes and stutters. I have updated graphics drivers. Flashes bios update. Checked bios settings. Nothing seems to get hot. Using a Corsair h100 cooler on the CPU.
Don't think any dmg was done to the CPU. I placed it in a CPU tray when not using it to make sure no pins were damaged.
Going to reformat the machine this weekend if I cannot find a solution.
