Hi, so I come here after having a chat with intel support.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro running Windows 11, i5-13500h and a 3050 GPU.
The monitor is a 120hz 2.5k. As I saw, after installing all the drivers, in the display option from windows settings, is the option to have 60hz, 120hz or Dynamic Refresh Rate 60hz and 120hz.

I have selected to stay all the time on 120hz but nothing changes. Uninstalling and Installing the gpu drivers, installing intel graphic center the normal one and the beta, from the beta one i have set to 120hz, i disabled the vrr where i could find it and the issue is still here.

Also if I change it to 60hz the display will stay at 60hz, doesn't matter what I do, but if i select the 120hz, same problem, it changes to 60hz when doing something then 120hz when doing something, it's stuck on dynamic refresh rate.

How can i select the display to stay at 120hz all the time?

I have asked on the forum, you can see the answer, trying to get in contact with a technician from lenovo but dont know how, im waiting maybe on whats app to the us service team, maybe i will have some luck.

The issue is super weird, now browsing is 120hz, id i go to desktop is 60hz again, im thinking to return it fr

I will uninstall the intel gpu with DDU and install that one and let you know. Its so frustrating seeing how well is moving on browser and on desktop back at 60hz if i dont move a file, same issue in mathcad, word, etc.

The monitor is a 120hz 2.5k.
are you using in laptop display or an extra one? I assumed it was extra at first.

Display supported modes: 1440p at 60hz?
not according to Iris XE specs

Max Resolution (HDMI)‡ - 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz
Max Resolution (DP)‡ - 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz
Max Resolution (eDP - Integrated Flat Panel)‡ - 4096 x 2304 @ 120Hz

could be the monitor driver is wrong. It wouldn't be 1st time for lenovo
From the evidence you present, it seems likely the problem is tied to the Lenovo Monitor.inf having the wrong EDID data for the panel to allow 90Hz refresh.

this one can only get 60 - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkP...ations/Refresh-rate-stuck-at-60hz/m-p/5240938

windows 11 gets a lot of blame too.

Im using the laptop display, i dont think it has to do with that since i have 120hz when browsing, using autocad with the dedicated gpu etc, for example if i open mathcad, using integrated gpu, the cursor will move in 60hz, if i type constantly and in the same time move the cursor, i can see that the refresh rate changes back to 120hz

It is strange that it uses the igpu for graphical applications, in most laptops it uses the dedicated GPU for more intense things and igpu for everything else. You sure its using the igpu when its hitting 120?

How are you tracking refresh rate? my gpu reports its frame rate is 0 now which is impressive and wrong. Google is no help as it just shows how to see what it should be... if you Gsync or Freesync, it doesn't mean its running at what it says in windows.

afterburner reports Icue runs at 4fps. that seems a little low.

what does this say? though it is just speed in browser - https://www.testufo.com/refreshrate

So I was tracking the hz by seeing how the cursor changes, you can see the diff between the 60 and 120 by moving it fast. So for autocad for example it uses the rtx 3050, if i use only the dedicated gpu, the 3050, the display will stay at 120hz all the time, i was thinking that the integrated one could do the same since i have that dynamic refresh rate only when the integrated display is connected.

And on that site it shows me 60hz...

After switching to the 3050, it shows me that i have 120hz, maybe the integrated gpu cant support 120hz? and by dynamic refresh rate will use the dedicated one in some apps to get it to 120hz?

Ok so nvm, i entered again on you link, to see how many hz i have, and its shows me 120hz, if i go to desktop, again 60hz, if i go to that page, 120hz again, and its not the dedicated gpu, i can check what program is using the gpu.

https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sy...html?ver=9aa4c824-e80e-4099-b5c1-826dbf755ec6 shows as 120

should be 120 - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...IdeaPad-5-Pro-16ARH7-refresh-rate/m-p/5175431

if you know what an MTM is, you can put it in here to find specs - https://psref.lenovo.com/
to find exactly your laptop model : look at the sticker under your laptop case for Machine Type Model MTM ( example 82L51234KR , must contains 10 characters ) / do not post SN serial number

a lot of them had the wrong monitor driver and it showed as 90hz.

Yeah, its weird, it dosent have sense, the only logic thing will be a bug, that lets the dynamic refresh rate on when 120hz is selected.
Btw do you know how to contact lenovo support? I dont find any option to make a ticket or something.

it seems iris XE max refresh rate at 1440p is 60hz unless you using HDMI

I can't find anything that shows it can run 120
Btw do you know how to contact lenovo support? I dont find any option to make a ticket or something.

isn't there anything in the account area?

the get support link here takes you to Microsoft - https://support.lenovo.com/au/en

click this, it shows a pop up that might help - https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/contact-us?linktrack=footer:support_contact us

though thats the Australian site. Might try one locally

Also a quick question, maybe a stupid one but, so i have bought this laptop as new from a retailer, 800eur aprox, after this problem im considering to return it, locally i cant find a better laptop at this price, should i buy a second hand laptop, lenovo legion 5 pro? 6800h 3070 2k display?
The thing is that that one is used and more heavier, I was looking for a decent laptop but still thin and kinda easy, what would you do?
Or I should wait maybe they will fix it idk, its weird af.

I would contact their support and see what they say. go to their website and look on bottom row, it might have a contact us link like the one I showed.

I never buy anything second hand, so not right person to ask. I would wait and see what they say.
