So i recently grabbed my old 1tb hard drive out of my old pc to give to my GF as she is running out of space, but so far its been headache after headache.

First of all, i tried plugging it in normally into the pc, and worked fine, i wiped it with no issues and it was picking it up fine, only issue is there is no space in the case to fit it. so i had a look around and found this:

https://www.centrecom.com.au/orico-25-inch-hard-drive-adapter-black .

I got the package today, and plugged it in with my hdd... and nothing. In file explorer its grayed out.

So far i have tried:
Restarting pc

Unplugging all 3 things and plugging them back in

Different usb ports

Right clicking properties and trying error checking, it comes up with "the disk check could not be performed because windows cant access the disk"

Tried running command prompt in administrator and typing in chkdsk D: /f and it said "cannot open volume for direct access"

After THAT tried CP again and tried chk ntfs /X J: (i also tried fiddling around and changed the drive letter, nothing) and it came up with "cannot query start of drive J:

The adapter itself has a blue light on it which i know is good, and i know the drive isn't corrupt because i plugged it in before to test it. for some reason there is no sound coming from it and its not getting any hotter or moving, so i have a feeling there is something with the power delivery, but i have no idea.

Edit: so i had a look on the box, and it sais "for 2.5 inch hdd/ssd", my drive is a 3.5 inch. does that affect anything? i wouldn't think so as they are both mechanical, but if it is the issue that means i just bought a useless product, right?

Thank you for any help

Edit: spelling and extra infoi

Solution
2.5-inch drives need less power than 3.5-inch ones, USB port cannot supply enough power for that 3.5-inch drive, hence it cannot be detected because it's not even powering up. You need a 3.5-inch HDD enclosure (so you can actually install the drive inside the enclosure) and it should be supplied with a power brick that plugs in to mains socket.
