Hi

I was under the impression (righlty or wrongly) that the Samsung 960 Evo would work on the second (non ultra) M.2 slot, albiet not at its fullest capabilities.

I have now got a second 960 EVO drive, but it doesnt appear to be detected in the second slot.

Can the second M.2 slot make use of the EVO? Im a bit confused now over what I can and Cant put in there.

Best regards

Check your motherboard manual, but that slot probably takes up a SATA connection. If that SATA connection is being used by another device like a optical drive or a HDD/SSD then your mother board will not read the EVO. You will need to move the device to a different SATA connection.

Currently have 2x 960 EVO, the one in the Ultra slot is working and is my boot drive
1 other samsung SSD
1 HDD currently connected
1 other HDD not connected, by power or sata although the cable is connected the the motherboard still

EDIT;

I think its SATA3_7, SATA3_8 and SATA3_A1, that are currently occupied on the MB, though one of those is not connected to anything at the other end.

Hmmm, when I disconnect all drives except the 2 x m.2 drives, its still only seeing the EVO in the ultra slot (C: Drive).

Turns out I needed to format the new drive, which I didnt realise I had to do. Dont remeber needing to do this for the other M.2 drive.

Seems to be working as expected now.

Thanks for your help.
