Issues with windows 8.1 updates on "new" PC

First of all this is my first post so hello everyone!

That said I've been using Windows 7 on my personal PC for ages but this week I've upgraded my PC with some scrap parts I managed to gather and on this "new" more robust computer I've installed windows 8.1. Sadly this came with a couple of issues.

1. I'm pretty sure my copy of Windows 8.1 is genuine as I got it through DreamSpark. The thing is, even though I was able to activate the CD-Key I got I don't get the "Windows Genuine" logo on the "system" window. On the other hand I don't get any of the pirated version errors or messages so I'm not sure if it's genuine or not.

2. I tried to install all the available updates (>100) but after a long while (after they seemed to install just fine) I went to check them and about half say they are installed with errors (I'm not 100% sure this would be the proper translation as my windows is Portuguese). Windows tried to install all these updates twice but now they remain with these error messages and windows says all the updates are installed...

3. I have no icon inviting me to upgrade to windows 10 even though (a) my computer complies with all system requirements and (b) update KB3035583 seems to be installed correctly (this one doesn't have the error I mentioned previously).

I haven't used my windows live account in ages so I didn't remember my password and now have to wait 30 days for the reset. I made local accounts for both Windows 8 and Office until I can fix this but I don't think this relates to these issues.

Here's the current build that's having these issues:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Q6600 (used)
RAM: 8GB DDR2-800 (2 new modules and 2 used modules)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 1Gb (used)
Board: Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (used)
SSD: Kingston SSDNow300 120GB (new) <- Windows is installed here
HDD: Some random 350GB Hard Drive (used)

I ran a couple of stress tests including burnin test and everything seems to be just fine. I've also tried MS Windows Update fix tool. That found a couple of errors at first. The tool fixed them but the updates continue to not install...

I'd love if someone could help me out with this as it's killing the "new pc" joy... :/

PS: Everything else works flawlessly. I have no errors in no program. Games run smoothly. Steam downloads at an average of 15MB/s (which is great) the computer boots in 20secs (this board doesn't have an UEFI BIOS) and even though the board only supports SATA2 the SSD has respectable speeds (much better then a mechanical drive). It's only the updates that are stuck!

Window 8/8.1 do not have the "Window Genuine " Logo anymore.
If you got it from Dreamspark directly, it is a legitimate key.
With the window updates, you should run them in small batches. If you run with 100 updates, it will most likely fail some of them.

Now I can't install them as it says they're installed (with errors). Maybe I'll just reinstall windows 8.1 and give your idea a try... Installing 10/15 updates at a time to see if it helps...

Run Command Prompt as Administrator. Then type: "sfc /scannow". When I have had updating issues with Windows 8.1 this is what I do first. It will check for any corrupt system components and attempt to fix them. It's not a guarantee fix at the moment, but it may fix the problem or at least narrow it down. If it is not able to fix the files, let me know what it says.

After Suztera suggestion I decided to reinstall windows but after it installed my computer stopped booting completely (it always froze during POST). I tried resetting CMOS settings etc but nothing seemed to fix so eventually I tried the JMicron SATA port instead of the standard Intel one. After that the computer booted normally and the installation finished. Sadly my lunch hour was over and I had to get back to work.

Before turning off the computer and it was much much faster to find updates for windows. Either way I'm gonna install them in groups of 10/15 to see if I manage to get everything working properly. If it fixes it I'll say here but it's either some installation error from the first install or some weird compatibility issue with this SSD and the Intel Sata controller.

I tried to reinstall reinstall windows but the issue persists... Then I tried eeza465's tip and ran sfc. This is the output:

Then I tried to install only one update (KB2920189 as it's the first on the list) but it failed with the error 80246010. *sigh* :-(

PS: I tried the windows update troubleshooter which found some issues and "fixed" them. The problem persists and everytime I run the troubleshooter I get the same errors "fixed".

I'm just gonna leave this here in case someone has the same issue. I tried to install one update at a time and I was able too see it was more of a transfer issue then an install issue. I opened some ports on my router and tried a couple of tricks. But what seems to have fixed it was installing a couple of updates one by one and after that all the others installed just fine.

On thing to keep in mind is that I was also a bit dumb. When I went to the update history I didn't realize that all the failed updates where then installed successfully. What shows there is that there was one specific attempt to install it that failed (due to network problems, dependencies or something like that) but if you compare the installed updates with the failed updates you'll see they eventually installed just fine.

Now everything is working just fine. I ran a ton of diagnostics on this computer and all came back OK. Also the windows 10 update icon eventually shows up on the system tray so everything now is working as expected.
