I've been sending photos from my A680 for the past several days, but now I
get an error saying I must pay an extra $5/month to do this? WTF? How is
this usage any different from sending any other data on the SPCS network?

Could you list when you started service, and what plan, with what options
you took? In looking at SPCS's plan page, they show a separate $5 / mo.
option to have Picture Mail.

Mine doesn't. Mine is a $15/month Vision w/Picture Pack.

See, that's one of the things I was looking for, is whether he had that
option, as both of us do. Or even whether he has just plain ole Vision or
doesn't have Vision.

Depends on which Vision "Pack" you have, or if you have Vision.

If I remember correctly, you can switch between Vision plans, at will.
Just talk to good old Claire.

If you've got a camera phone, and you have any intention of sending
photos on a regular basis, you should be on the Vision Picture Pack
plan. Same $15/month, but you get less allocation for chatchke
downloads. (Frankly, I've never seen a single item worth downloading
from Sprint -- free or not. I've never used a penny of the $5/month
allotment on the Picture Pack plan.)

Sounds like Vision got added after the phone was activated. The
company that runs Picturemail services for us doesn't have access to
our billing database. So, in order to make sure proper billing
options are in effect, they initiate a 15-day trial period on all
customers that didn't get the Pictures Pack right at activation.

If you've got that Pictures Pack, just accept the fee. The company
will reset your account to permanently active, and SPCS will *not*
charge that $5/month while you have the Pictures Pack.

how important many people feel it is *not* to share account
information with partners.

I should clarify.. regarding billing information there ARE some things I
wouldn't want shared, but there are a few pieces of info which I don't care
about being shared.

Yes, I do NOT want my billing information shared with third parties. I
don't want my SS tagging along. I don't want my address tagging along.
I don't want my CC# or even check numbers tagging along. I certainly
don't want my usage habits or call logs tagging along. But mostly, I
just don't want the associated spam that ALWAYS accompanies such a
shared information scenario. Only HIPPA can mostly guarentee
information safety because of the associated penalties involved, and
this is certainly not restricted to any scope such as that.
