Question It is worth going to AM5?

Hey guys! I'm looking to buy a new computer after years with an i5 8400 and 16gb of 2600mhz ram.

I want to get something that will last a few years and that gives me a break in performance (I work at home using basic programs like teams, etc. and I multitask all the time). Furthermore, I also like playing open world games.

I'm looking and I'm between getting a 12th generation Intel and faster DDR4 memories, or buying an AM5 card and a Ryzen 7600 with DDR5 memories (and in the future an RTX 3060).

What do you think, is the AM5 really worth the investment today?

For longevity, yes. But if you intend to keep it as long as your i5-8400, less so.

You could also do DDR5 with 12-14th gen Intel.

Or look at the AM4 platform for the 5700X3D or 5800X3D and stick to DDR4 that way.

Really depends on what you have to spend what the best options are.

I thought about this option for the 5700X3D with a B550M Pro and two 16GB DDR4 3600MHZ memories. What do you think?

Also consider that I will have to build the computer from scratch, so maybe the AM5 option makes sense since where I live (Brazil), the Ryzen 7600 is cheaper than the 5700X3D, I'm just not sure if the cheaper motherboard would be able to support it smoothly with DDR5 memories (an A620M motherboard for example)

Not sure why it wouldn't, they are designed to work together.

I would seek out a B650 board though. A620 chipset is lacking a lot of features. Also the least likely to see BIOS updates to support multiple generations of CPU.

If your plan is upgrade CPUs in 5 years time, X670 might be the better option as well. Can't really recommend X670E, that extra chipset adds a lot of I/O but not necessary unless you have a lot of hardware to plug in.

Yes, AM5 is an outstanding platform and I have no reservations.

Multitasking would be at least a 5900X or a 5950X, or perhaps 7000 series. There are just too many good options to consider.

Have had zero issues with AMD.
