I own a HITACHI XL1000 External Drive. This week I was using it normally, no problems at all, when suddenly, when I tried to connect the driver again to my laptop as I always do, it doesn't turn on, it doesn't even spins up and not even showing in the laptop. I've tried changing the USB with other I have: no response; changed the power cord: no response.

It's like when I eject the External Drive and it's not turned on. I have a lot in this hard drive, even in my Photography Pics and I don't want to lose all of it. Hope you can help me and tell me what to do. I own a MacBook Pro 13 inch Retina.

Hey there JPDI87.

Unfortunately if the hard drive is not powering up and this is not because of your AC adapter, there's not much you can do. The most reliable solution in your case would be a data recovery company, which could often be quite expensive, but if your data is precious to you, this is one way to go. The other way (and this should only be used as a last resort, because it voids the warranty of your drive and is never recommended to be done by the user), is to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it either externally or internally to another computer, hoping that it's the external enclosure's fault. You could try connecting it externally via a different external enclosure, a docking station or a SATA to USB cable and you could try connecting it internally, directly via a SATA connection to a PC to see if the drive is recognized and if you can get your data. Note that if you connect to a PC, even if the drive is recognized and powering up, you will need a 3rd party driver in order to be able to read the HFS+ file system, which is used for drives formatted for Mac OS X, because it is not supported by Windows.
Unfortunately it really sounds like those are your only options. :(

Good luck! Please let me know how everything goes.
