It's Alive!

I brought my Epox 8RDA+ back to life! it died a couple of weeks ago, and a couple of capacitors looked a little dodgy, so I found a couple of likely looking ones on a couple of old mobos at work, and fitted them yesterday... and now it POSTs!

Of course, it might not run stably, and my soldering isn't exactly what you'd call 'professional' , but it's better than the previous completely black screen!

Now I know what Dr. Frankenstein must've felt like, although fortunately I can't see any villagers with burning torches coming to lynch me... yet 😱 ..

Just thought I'd share my sense of self-satisfaction with you all.

Also, thanks to those who pointed me towards looking for dodgy caps. God those things are bastards to remove if you're lacking professional tools. I think I killed about 5 before getting 2 that work. :lol:

Dude, that is wild. My bud works at radio shack and says people come in all the time with a capacitor that they've pulled out of some board. They stick it in his face and tell him, "I need one of these...". He laughs about it. He told me that there are a million different capacitors and allot of them look the same. Anyways props to ya, I didn't think that was posible. 😉

Might've spoken too soon...

Booted up fine, but had issues loading windows, and now the keyboard seems to have stopped working altogether... But hey, I was on my lunch break so don't have time to fiddle with it now. I'll have a more in-depth look later on.

Not too bothered - it's not like I've lost anything... but I guess I'll have to get hold of a new mobo or something. don't really want to sell any of it (always useful to have a few spares floating around for troubleshooting)

Too bad. Sometimes the caps will take out the mosfets, so it's a good idea to check the vcore. In this case though, it sounds like you lost a power trace. Pity.
Oh well the nforce2 ultra boards are cheap now.
