It's ok that the tempeture is 44 idle? (Gigabyte Windforce R9 290)

Hello everyone,

I have the card in use less then 2 weeks it's brand new.

I want to know if it's ok?

I'm checking on MSI Afterburner and it show that the temps are 40-44 when I'm on desktop.

It's ok?

The modle is GV-R929OC-4GD

It's a bit warm for that specific card. What case do you have the card in? Given that it's an open-air cooler you will want to be sure that your case has enough airflow to vent out the heat produced by the card.

Idle temperatures don't matter nearly as much as load temperatures. As long as it's below 90C under load it should be all set. The GPU can run up to 95C before throttling but Gigabyte's cooler should be powerful enough to keep it below 90C unless your case doesn't have enough airflow or there's something wrong with the card/cooler.

44 is over average, but it won't cause any problems unless i goes over 80 degrees, that's when it starts causing problems

And the max temps it showed is 72

72C at load is rock solid. Great temperatures and the Windforce cooler is definitely doing a good job of keeping the card cool.

I wouldn't worry too much about the idle temperature. If it's really bugging you and you want to adjust the idle temperature you can always increase the fan speed a little to lower the temperature. The fans may be a little louder than they are at the stock speed but on the Windforce cooler the fans are pretty quiet so it may not make an audible difference.

I believe AMD's Catalyst Control Center will allow you to adjust the fan curve directly from the driver suite. You can also use free third-party utilities like Sapphire Trixx, MSI Afterburner, or ASUS GPU Tweak to adjust fan speeds and create profiles.

Actually the 72 temp is with MSI Afterburner.

I wanted to also ask if this fan speed I made is good?

BTW the 50 temp is because I was just in game (Something light - Super Mario Galaxy with Dolphin)

- 40-44 seems fine in that particular case. Ventilation holes on the sidepanel would help though...
