Unanswerable question.

For $10 and the use case of an HTPC....they are still very viable.

If, OTOH, you're building a hotrod gaming system, many things are not applicable.

For what purpose? It's not a binary thing; CPUs don't cross some abstract line where they become "too slow, weak or old" on an universal level. I have some modeling tasks that my i7-8700K is unsuitable for, at least compared to my 5900X. I have some tasks that my Pentium 4 does just fine with; I have a Pentium 4 in charge of feeding music from my file server to my whole house audio system.

If your first priority is heavy duty gaming and you're sticking with AM4, get a 5800X3D or 5700X3D.

Are you upgrading an old AM4 system or starting from scratch?

A more future-proof option would be to switch to AM5 if you're staying with AMD.
