I keep getting a spinning ball on my Mac whenever I use iTunes particularly the Podcasts section

(I am still on Mojave and I have no intention of updating)

I use to have an Apple Script that would keep my podcasts updated and remove the exclamation mark, and keep the podcasts updating automatically, but that has since stopped working

Now whenever I want to update, or add new ones or anything to do with it, I get a spinning ball I can't explain away

My iTunes Library is located on an external thunderbolt hard drive, that as far as I know is running fine, it is SMART enabled and as far as DriveDX is concerned it seems fine, so I don't think it is the drive but i really can't figure it out, and the ball goes on for 5-10 minutes every time

Any help would be great thanks

If your script stopped working that points to some change on the back-end that made it incompatible with your program versions. Did you check with Apple support or their forums?

I came here first to hear expert opinions. It is just trying to figure out at this stage if it is the computer, the external drive or something else

And I will add that please remember that iTunes has been discontinued.

You can easily find other similar links.

Being discontinued is indeed certainly a back end change that (per @hang-the-9 ) would make things incompatible.

The transition may have just caught up with your Mac. Depending on the details you may indeed need to check with Apple support.
