A friend is asking me if I can build a system for him & has a budget of $1,800. He's into RGB and wants one of those Samsung 970 Evo M.2 500GB SSD's(which should be included in the build). Additional HDD's are not necessary. He's interested in the i7-8700k(should go with a Z370 board) or the Ryzen 7 2700x(should go with a X470). Also mentioned wanting a 1080 Ti, but he games @ 1440p so possibly a standard 1080 will do?(granted, he likes to play on high/ultra settings). A fully modular 80+ gold PSU around 600 - 650w should do. Other then that, onboard Wireless-AC is required.
I'm guessing I should stop being lazy and just pick the parts myself. :pt1cable:

P.S. No monitor, keyboad, mouse, speakers, or Windows license required. Just the PC parts.

I'd add RGB fans into the case when your friend has extra money.

This reminds me of a possible ITX build I'm thinking of making for portable gaming, budget is $500 and I already own the CPU cooler & HDD.

All of those look good to me. With SFF, the case/cooling is the obstacle. Here's an example I like. Normally I wouldn't be interested in a case that came with the power supply. But the cables that come with this case are built specifically for it. And it's just really good looking. Cable management in sff can be a pain. CPU

Obviously if you like the case you switch out the parts with any of the above examples. AMD/Nvidia whatever your feeling.

For 1440p, I would go with a 2700x. Gaming differences are minor, and you get a more versatile system, multitasking wise. I went with a 250gb 970 evo for OS, and most used programs, and a 1tb Crucial MX500 for games storage, 1080ti, and made sure to include RGB.

Some cool builds. Going to examine each recommendation.
He's supposed to be coming over this weekend & going to order all the parts then. Will be putting the system together once the parts arrive. I'll take pics when it's all done. pcpartpicker does come in handy, but hoping I'll be able to get everything from newegg(one order) & have it all shipped/arrive at the same time.

I wish I could just go to Fry's and get everything(oh well)
Thank you all. I will let you know what's been ordered.
