Going into military soon, and I was needing something that can do gaming (bf4/planetside 2) was looking at laptops, however came to the conclusion it will cost too much just to game on pc.

So i thought it would be much cheaper to go with itx
Im new to building small form factor. and need a itx case that is portable, and maybe similar size to consoles.

Just needs to fit small gpus like gtx 950/970 or amd's 370/380

If not i will just buy console, and use adapter for m/k

Note I already have a gtx 950, full size, about 8-9" i think. Is it really worth the extra$ for i5 paired with such a low powerd gpu? Right now i am on crap phenom 840t, runs every game i play just fine, except for planetside 2, is the 860k a big improvment in ipc over my old cpu?

Any way i can trim down the cost a bit? Would you recommend i3 and stock cooler over the 860k? And i need this to last 4 or more years, as in able to run newer games medium or greater settings smoothly for the next 4 years

Personally, I would go intel. A fast i3 is plenty in many cases for gaming. I ran a higher spec i3 with a 780gtx just to see and sure, its slower than a fast quad core, but it didnt effect game play. Stock cooler is fine. Get 2 sticks of ram though, so you can have dual channel memory support.

The Silverstone is an awesome console sized case, should fit pretty much any CPU and graphics card and it is only 380 x 370 x 87mm. Possibly a little bit too expensive for this build though.

If you're willing to overclock a bit I'd go for a Pentium G3258. Much cheaper than an i3 and with a small overclock it will easily match the gaming performance.

Should give better gaming performance than consoles, especially if you can overclock that Pentium a bit. Includes wi-fi as well.

Funnily enough, desktops aren't always that much cheaper. Usually they are but not always. You have to remember that a gaming laptop includes an OS, mouse, keyboard, monitor, wi-fi and a battery.

Didn't know that board would OC. Just be sure cuz that chip is a dog a stock clocks.

While normally i would go for thr g3258, i dont think it will be a good idea, as i will need it to play new games for the next 4 years without any upgrading. I also just realised i dont need ram either as i can steal 8gb from the old junk i have now. Already have os. I5 i dont think is worth it for a little gtx 950, so im between i3/oc 860k.
