aka Iter Vehemens ad Necem. Is there anyone playing this? I can't seem
to find much discussion on it.

http://ivan.sourceforge.net/

It's got some rather nice graphics for a roguelike and has a body part
system where body parts can be lost. There are also bosses which can
be particularly challenging. The game has a specific sense of humor
that I like...

There's a certain level at which difficulty shoots up dramatically,
which is why I think there might be something (or something(s) that
I'm missing, like another area.) That's why I was hoping to get some
tips, I'm sure there must be things I could be doing that would make
it easier...

Yeah, that frog is what gets me too... I noticed just recently on
their mailing list archive at sourceforge, one of the developers said
that there might be an update soon.. so I've been keeping an eye on
the sourceforge page. I hope they tone down that frog a bit..

Wow I just started playing and it is awesome. the only rougelike where
you can rip off you leg in a trap and eat it afterwards. The small
animations are cool to (I love watching kobolds hop around with one
leg and one arm)

Hey, have you used Mace named Turox? Turox rox 😛 But before using it,
better equip yourself with something of fire resistance 😛
Some advices from me:
- Vomit on shrine on goddes of mutations. It will make her like you
better. Don't vomit on any other shrine.
- Try vomitting when you are poisoned, but not too much, or you will
starve to death.
- Try combination of Ring of Polymorph and Polymorph Control. Rox =].
Best choices to polimorf to: Diamond golem (strongest soab that you
can polymorph into), elite dark knight / elite guard (not so strong
but equipped items will be still equipped when polymorf back to
yourself).
- If you are feeling lucky, pray Valpurus when polymorphed into
Diamong Golem, when it's angel arives - kill it and get that its items
=].
- When you change material, the best material you can change into is
meteoric steel. I think.

Haf phun!

I've successfully changed leather armor into Unicorn Horn Plate,
which is an amazing armor. AV 20 base, with double effects of any
armor enchantments. Haven't yet tried this with any other cloaks,
boots, etc.

Is the way below the third level of the Gloomy Cave hidden, or have
I encountered a dungeon-generation bug? I turned on wizard mode (cheat
cheat cheat) and ran all over the level without finding a way down.

Wow... That's really interesting...

It's not hidden, I think... At least SHOULD NOT be hidden... Sometimes
if you will see some strange rectangles of terrain you might dig into
a secret place. Sometimes they're easy to find, as they are in center
of large hall, and sometimes you have to be very perceptive to find
such places. One time I've found Holy Banana that increased my
statistics and grant me better light source...

Anyway, level 3 of Gloomy Cave is nothing unordinary. Boss is on level
5. Well, very nasty boss... Hmmm... Maybe you should try making some
tunels with pick-axe and then you'll find way down...

My girlfriend and I have been playing this for a few weeks. She had
never played a roguelike before, but she's more addicted than I am, an
enthusiastic seven year veteran of NetHack, ADOM, et al., who has
never been exceptionally good at any roguelike. Anyway, IVAN is
great, and I'd love to see an update and a little balancing (it's too
easy to lose limbs, for instance).
