I've been thinking....

So currently I have 2 EVGA GTX 1070 Sc graphics cards in SLI but I've been thinking perhaps I should sell my cards and just get a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 or try to find a good deal on a EVGA GTX 1080 ti FTW3 card on Ebay. I game at 1440p -always lol and my setup has allowed me to run any game on ultra/max settings with 60-120+ fps depending on the game. I've dealt with a certain individual on Ebay and I'm certain I can get $600 for my cards but I can only contribute about $100-150 on top of that to buy a new card if need be. This thought has been bouncing around in my head for a couple weeks now and thought maybe I could get some helpful ideas or advice as to what I should do. I've also thought about waiting it out and snatching 2 1180s or 2080s if they become a real thing but I wouldn't be able to do that until February of 2019. My other relevant specs are that I have a i7 8700k, EVGA z370 classified k mobo, 32gb of corsair ddr4 ram (3000), and a 1k watt psu. Ideally I'd like to be gaming in 4k 60fps in 2019

Solution
well if you are going to stick with 1440p it wont do you any good to switch setups. there will be nothing to gain and it will just cost a lot. If I were you I'd wait it out, you have alot of power there. If you want to go single card I'd wait till the new stuff comes out and get a high end card and go 4k

Just thought that I'd add that for sure I'll upgrade my gpu's in 2019 be it the new 1180/2080 in sli or the 1080 ti in sli. For now I'm just entertaining the idea of dropping SLI for 1440p gaming in favor of a single card set up until I can upgrade in 2019 for 4k gaming. Would you stick with what I have now or sell my cards and go single GPU?

Can't see any gain tbh. Never seen the point in SLI either really. Just brings up issues. 2 1070's should outperform a 1080Ti in games with SLI support. Instead of SLI next gen why not get a Titan or XX80Ti?
