Hello.

Well basically the problem is is windows is not installing anything. I had a drive crash the other day and when trying to boot it back up got stuck in windows boot manager. I couldn't find out the solution or a fix so I tried some things through the bios and booted it up on to at the previous time was my E:/drive which is now my C:/drive.

Anyways I had windows 7 OEM home edition and anyways I can't seem to install vc_redist.exe at all I keep getting stuck on the MSU part and my mate told me to upgrade to windows 7 professional and gave me the files to do that. So I did that hoping that it would fix things and it hasn't changed anything.

The problems are is that I cannot fully install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 because I get an error that pops up or it just hangs.

The hanging issue happens for everything. Windows standalone installer, Windows updates, The MSU error downloading the redistributable. I don't know a work around and would appreciate a response from anyone who has had a similar issue and has a workaround.

If anything else is required to assist you please don't hesitate to ask. I do need those files to work somehow

Solution
This has worked for me in the past in a similar situation.

First make sure your windows install is registered.

Download and save the following files on a media you can access on this machine.
If 32-bit windows:
Windows6.1-KB3138612-x86.msu
Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x86.msu
If 64-bit windows:
Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu
Windows6.1-KB3138612-x64.msu

Before installing those files disable your internet connection somehow, whether WiFi or wired. Typically just turn the router/gateway off. Reboot the machine. Disabling the connection is to make sure automatic updates do not run when booting.

Install the above files in the order given from whatever media you used. If it asks to reboot between...

Basically the problem is is it just hangs and does nothing. I left windows updater open for around 4 hours now and it's done nothing but just say checking for updates.
The windows installer standalone to help fix windows updater did nothing but check as well.
And when installing the redistributable it gets stuck on the MSU part.
I don't know if there's another source that can download the redistributable and not get stuck because that's whats been happening

Install the above files in the order given from whatever media you used. If it asks to reboot between installs, do so. If not, do so anyway.

Turn the machine off and re-enable your internet connection.

Reboot and try to run windows update again. As I understand it, Microsoft has now included all updates for Windows 7 in a "rollup". You can no longer choose which updates to install. So it can take a long time if you are working on a fresh install. There will be 100's of them.

You may see some messages that say an update failed. Ignore them and reboot the machine to finish the updates that did install and run windows update again. Repeat until you don't see any failed update messages.

I did this on a friend's Lenovo laptop and it took a full day to get the machine working but we started with formatting the hard drive and installing windows fresh. You may have to go that route to get it working again but try the above first.
