Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to build my own custom gaming computer. I've been searching the internet for a while now and am even more confused than when i started. Any help with designing the best gaming computer for that price (I can go a hundred over if needed).

What I use it for:
Minor Games (Minecraft/ Terraria)
Major Gaming (I want to get more into this but my current computer can't even handle minecraft (I.E. Guild Wars 2, Half Life, Portal, Crisis 3))
Engineering Software (i'm going into electrical engineering and industrial design so I'll need a pretty high powered computer to handle that stuff)
General surfing and videos

Any and all help appreciated, I'm a beginner and the less amount of things left up to me the more likely the computer is to work. Thanks Everyone for your time!

P.S. What time-frame am i looking at for completing my build? (I'm balancing a job and working around the house)

The estimated wattage for the group you gave me was 413. so why did you choose the 750 watt power supply? What are the benefits of going above and beyond? Also what cooling system should I buy with this design?

Allows for overclocking if you buy an aftermarket cpu cooler in the future and I added in an OS.

To meet my 1000 dollar mark did you sacrifice in video card capabilities? I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons of everything and between what you and MarcoPolo put, it seems that the main difference is in video cards. Will i see a substantial decrease in game performance? thanks for all the help

The 7970 is a better card for the money than the 770

You can also easily overclock it by 10-15%

I really like your build. Is it one that you own? Also this build would work with dual monitors correct? And what are your thoughts on cooling systems?

Hmm.. Looks like the build maker made a boo boo. You'll need some form of aftermarket cooler to overclock the cpu decently. For a small overclock (less than 4Ghz), get a CoolerMaster 212 EVO. For higher clocks get an Antec Kuhler 620, they are practically giving them away and they are awesome!
