So my specs first:

  • ■Motherboard: asus p68z68 v pro gen3 [Link]
    ■ GPU: Asus GTX 780 [Link]
    ■ CPU: Intel Core I5 2500k [Link]
    ■ PSU: Corsair AX760 [Link]

My problem

So yesterday my screen froze and when I restarted my pc my screen was all black but I could hear that the pc still booted, but my screen was black so I figured it was my gpu that was failing.

I tried to change the gpu to a gtx 580 I had laying around and it worked perfectly and booted like normal, but in low res since I had no drivers installed. Then I tried to try out my gtx 780 again, but this time in my 2nd pci slot, and it booted surprisingly, but when I tried to put it back in the 1st pci slot it didnt work again so I dont know what the problem can be.

TLDR My GTX 780 doesnt boot on the first pci slot, but it does boot on the 2nd pci slot. And my other GPU the Gtx 580 does boot perfectly on the first slot so I dont know what the problem can be.

Any help is appreciated!

Solution
I have exactly same specs as your but only a 780 ti diff I got sameproblem recently the problem was from bios when automatically disabled the pci port for gpu, so I used integrated graphics and enabled back the pci port from video section in bios reinstalled the gpu and it was working, if it didn't work than its ram issue try to boot the pc with minimum ram,

I did it 3 years ago and I followed a guide on the same motherboard and cpu, so it wasnt too bad, but I agree!
