I've got an i5 4460 and a MSi z97 gaming 3 but im looking to upgrade to an i7 4790k but ive got aquestion about it

Im upgrading from a i5 4460 to a i7 4790k on a MSi z97 Gaming 3 but do i need to uninstall anything or install anything? Or do I just unclip the cpu and the heat sink and install the new cpu and heatsink and do no updates and conitinue with my life or?

You should just be able drop the new cpu in no problem. For a cpu upgrade you shouldn't have to mess with any software.

This is not true, first make sure you have bios version 7918v21.zip, if you have v20 the you will have to update the BIOS to support the 4790k more info here:

I would be very surprised if that motherboard shipped with a BIOS that didn't already support haswell refresh. That was a problem with Z87 but virtually all z97 motherboards should ship with a BIOS that supports haswell refresh. Couldn't hurt to check I suppose.
