I've had 3 dead PSU in a row. I got my fourth one and it's still not working.

I'm on Power Supply number 4, the first 2 were EVGA and then I switched to Seasonic as I've always liked them, but my first Seasonic was D.O.A and failed a paperclip test.

My replacement passed the paperclip test but won't boot, I don't know what the issue is. I have only the 24pin motherboard connector and the CPU connector plugged in and it still won't even so much as turn a fan.

My PC parts are : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qgqBCJ[1]

The Power Supply I bought from Amazon which is made by Seasonic is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ETEFTK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00[2]

I can hook my old 750 Watt PSU back up using the exact same cables and it will boot instantly. The problem isn't my Motherboard or CPU, it's something to do with the Power Supply. Connections are good and secure, Power supply is on obviously, I've tried multiple different outlets in my house and it's plugged straight into the wall currently, nothing that would limit it in anyway.

When I plug the new PSU into my motherboard I get a motherboard light, but when I boot I get no POST, no beeps, no fans turn, no lights come on, nothing. This PSU actually passed the paperclip test and powered a 120mm fan I had hooked to it, the first one I got was just straight up D.O.A.

Does anyone have any ideas? At this point I'm getting very frustrated. I've tried a different CPU cable than the one they provided and it still didn't work.

I just contacted Seasonic Tech Support and they were so hilariously useless that I actually thought it was a joke at first.

Tests I've done, please don't ask me if I've done them

  • Made sure PSU is turned on (duh)
Hooked up only CPU and 24 pin motherboard cable
    Tried different CPU cable
Performed Paper Clip Test (lastest one did pass it)
Used only one stick of RAM
Used other PSU to test motherboard (other PSU works fine)
    Tried different Wall Outlets
Unhooked GPU and all Drives (HDD, SSD, Optical etc)
    Yelled at PSU
    Prayed to God for help

I don't know what else to do guys, it's been 2 weeks now of trying these different power supplies and I can't get one to work. I don't have another computer handy that I can plug the PSU in to see if it will boot it.

Strange indeed, however I will say I think something else is afoot - you seem like a knowledgeable person, and four DOA power supplys from reputable manufacturers in a row...? Unlikely I think.

After all your tests, the next step would be trying in a different PC. I'd suggest really doing your best to find one, because you've done the normal tests.

Yeah that was my thought as well, I'm going to take it my friends after work and just try it in his I guess.

What will be the next step if it does / doesn't boot?

If it doesn't boot then obviously PSU is just bad under load, but if it does boot on his but not mine, what would that mean? My old PSU still works just fine with the PC, I can plug it back in and turn it on instantly. In fact it's what's hooked up right now, the new one is in the floor and my Desktop works great

That is not possible power supplies are tested before being boxed i can see 1 in 10 but not that many in a row the problem lies in your hardware or maybe your motherboard is has brass standoff shorting a connection on bottom have seen this before newer power supplies will not function with a short.
Try motherboard outside the case with new power supply.

I don't see how it could be a hardware issue on my end, my old PSU works fine and is only about 2 years old and is a great quality PSU on it's own. Anything shorting out the new one should short out the old one too. I can hook the old one right back up and it turns on immediately.

Originally I was using the HDD cables and PCIE one from the last PSU, but I don't even bother hooking those up anymore. I've always used the new Motherboard 24pin and CPU pin provided by each PSU.

On the current one I even tried using a different CPU cable I know works and it still won't boot

How would I resolve this? That's the only thing I could think of too, but resetting the BIOS by taking the battery out didn't do anything and CMOS jumpers don't do anything.

Trust me i am a computer tech with over 30 years experience i have seen this many times with do it yourself builders some old power supplies will run with a short, new ones detect shorts to prevent damage.
Take motherboard out of the case place it on a non-conductive surface and plug in that new power supply.
After check all stand offs have a hole for motherboard it only takes 1 in wrong place to cause problems.

Ok cheers, my concern was mismatched cables (different model PSU's may have the connections in different places internally and that can end badly).
