Question I've overclocked my GPU core and memory and it doesn't overheat anymore as it did before. How is it possible?

My graphics card has been overheating while playing games in last days. The temperature would jump from 45 to 105 in a few minutes. I thought maybe reducing the GPU clock would help keeping it cooler but it made no difference. So I've increased the core and ram clock instead and since then the GPU runs cooler and doesn't overheat. How is this even possible?

is it running correct frequencies?
sounds like your gpu entered safe mode
