I'm fairly certain that i've port forwarded correctly but when i check if my port is open on a web tool is says that the port is closed. In fact it says that all the ports are closed. It seems that no matter what i do it shows up as closed. I've tried several things including calling my router company but they couldn't help so i don't know what to do from here. From what i can tell from various forum posts it might be that my device is not "listening" to that port but i have no idea how to check that or how to fix it.

Which router do you have?
Did you purchased the router or it was provided by your ISP? Some ISP migt not allow some changes to be made on their provided equipment.
Besides opening a port on your router, you might need to also open that port on your firewall.

I think it was provided by my ISP but i don't actually know the exact name of my router. I've called my ISP and they say that they don't really have anything to do with settings like that on the router. I don't think that its the firewall since i made rules allowing access for that port on both UDP and TCP.

It will be close to impossible to help you in you are unable to provide the model of your device. The model # is usually on the device itself.

By the way, your ISP is giving you the runaround since they know about the device they provided to you.

Most ISP won't help you to change the settings in the router, since they provide the same firmware to everyone and they don't want to have users with different configurations on their devices.
Even if you find a rogue tech that might help you, the changed could be reverted back without your knowledge.

That's one of the reasons many users get their own router.
