Ivy Bridge and Pci-e 2.0 compatibility

I purchased the new I5 3570k recently. Now I am aware that it fully supports PCI-E 3.0. Now my question is, I am not a huge fan of ATI cards, so I would prefer to go with a Nvidia card. Now the GTX 680 is currently sold out, but I was wondering if the Ivy Bridge processor is backwards compatible with PCI-E 2.0?

If it is, I would probably go with 2 high end 2.0 cards in SLI. But I want to make sure before I go out and buy them. Can anyone confirm this for me?
