If I missed this in my searches, please point me in the right direction.

I have an HP Windows 10 engineering laptop with McAfee Antivirus, IAR compiler, and Segger J-Link JTAG connector. When I plug the J-Link in, Windows does not see it on the USB port. This laptop has 4 USB 3.0 ports which work with thumb drives, headphones, and similar devices.

Do I need something to add resistance or draw more power? The Windows control panel does not see any USB mount attempts. I'm assuming this is a glitch in the Operating System but, I am open to other suggestions.

TIA,
Sid

"Segger J-Link JTAG connector "?

And not "being seen"....

This device?

https://www.segger.com/products/debug-probes/j-link/

My first thought was that not enough USB power was available: meaning that the J-Link would need to be connected via an independently powered USB hub.

So I started looking for power requirements and found the following User Manual:

https://www.segger.com/downloads/jlink/UM08001_JLink.pdf

Then (full disclosure) I stumbled into physically numbered Page 132....

J-Link USB Identification.....

Similar but, mine is not the PRO model.

Hmm ...
I guess it is possible that there isn't enough USB power available but, I haven't run into that on any other device.
Plugging it into a 2.4A cell phone charger should rule out a power issue though I will start with my 500mA charger first.

I wanted to follow up after I reached out to the Segger support team. The unit in question is an illegal clone of an older hard revision with known defects related to the USB functionality and several other things.

My employer was apparently duped.
