....man are the load times obnoxious! Too frequent and too long.

Still a contender for GOTY.

The load times are long but they didn't really aggravate me much until
the arena. 20 sec load to arena, 30 sec fight, 20 sec load back to
the game then 20 sec load for next fight, repeat. What was Boiware
thinking when they did this section ofg the game?

Swoop Racing was entirely optional though, despite that first race to
rescue Bastila. After that, it's your own choice to swoop race. It
ain't that much fun and it's not like you need the money. :)

Haven't gotten to that section in JE yet, but so far the loads aren't
bugging me. Either the XBOX needs a big fat memory upgrade or
programmers must learn how to use resources well. Morrowind hardly ever
loaded, but it also had more repetitive environments.

The same thing they were thinking when they put Swoop Racing into KOTOR 1?

The load times have increased a bit now. I am in Tiens Landing, but I
still don't see it as bad. Are the load times as bad as KOTOR? It
depends how you look at it, in my opinion. KOTOR loaded much more
frequently, because areas were smaller, but the load times overall were
faster. On the other hand, the areas in JE are usually bigger and you
say there for a longer time, but then the load times going from area to
area are longer.

I guess I am just more patient, I never much complained about the load
times of KOTOR or JE so far. I see it that way...I have had many games
with long load times, which makes me believe that this is as efficient
as you can program it. I am sure they developers would have improved
this, sicne it can certainly be a point to gripe upon. Maybe the XBOX
360 will have more RAM or games start installing things to the HDD to
speed up load times.

Anyway, my point is, long load times will not destroy this game.

The load times are the longest I've seen on the xbox so far, but I find that
the game doesn't have as much running between zones to solve sidequests when
compared to Kotor (I may be wrong here, played Kotor on release and haven't
touched it since) and many can be done in the same zone. One nice thing
about JE which I dont remember any previous bioware game doing is on certain
quests where you have to "accompany" someone to a distant zone, the game
will simply warp you there saving you the time in walking as well as loading
the 1 or (generally) more screens in between.

The only times the loading bugs me in this game is the arena (you'll see
later) and when I accidentally cross over to a new zone, but like you said,
this game is more than good enough to ignore them.

I liked travelling between planets and zones to complete tasks in KOTOR, it
made the game feel cohesive, and a lot less linear than KOTOR2 or Jade
Empire. I TOTALLY hear you about the Arena though, it was so annoying that
I almost just said "fukkit" and left that quest undone (similar to swoop
racing in KOTOR, but easier (for me at least) to accomplish the task and
progress forward), but I was too close to levelling up and getting ready to
move to what I thought was the final showdown...that being said, I wish Jade
Empire wold have been bigger, KOTOR dwarfed it in scope...like on the
optional flight missions near the end, instead of just the shooting game,
they could have put in the bandit camps for you to pillage...
