My friend tried to Jail-break his ipod and gets a BSoD when he starts it up. He can't get to safemode and he even tried the F8 method. Hes tried everything but a system reformat, is that the only way to fix his BSoD?

His exact words:
"i downloaded something to jailbreak my ipod. and then on youtube it said to edit the properties of the software to make it look like it was for windows xp. then suddenly my computer logged off and said it was updating and configuring 2 out of 3 %. Then it said it would restart, it didn't restart but it shut down. when i put it back on, the blue screen popped up"

Well... I suppose one might make a statement about downloading and running software from dubious sources... and that individuals who do so get exactly what they downloaded...

But that wouldn't be entirely helpful, and could be (mis)construed as a trolling attempt or excust to start an argument.

So instead: If your friend has an extra hard disc around, recommend disconnecting the current one, installing a fresh OS to that, and then using the fresh install to rescue his old data. If not, then he should think about getting one if he feels his data is valuable. If his current data isn't valuable, then he can just reformat, (recommend zero~writing to ensure complete erasure), and re-installing.

Good Luck with the Reinstall! :)
