News Japan Breaks Internet Speed Record at 319 Terabits per Second

I can see Comcast salivating now. Think of all the over data limit fees!
Just get XFi Complete. I paid $10 more per month compared to my old contract, and there's no data cap.
Except then I moved to a new state, switched to the new local ISP, and got gigabit down, 20Mbps up, plus mesh routers ... all for $10 per month less than I was paying Comcast for 400Mbps down/12Mbps up.
In other words, Comcast sucked, but at least there's a way to get rid of the data cap without paying a huge fee.

“ NICT scientists used optical fibers, small tubes that pass information”

Tubes? Lol. Really??? TH needs to stick to GPUs and ‘gaming chairs’.

Maybe we can finally get everybody to have a minimum internet connection of 100 Mbps Symmetrical UL/DL.

That's 3,190,000 (100 Mbps internet Connections) running simultaneously on one set of Fiber Optic Cables.

which is a joke.
its ridiculous that thats as good as US upload gets outside fiber.

the world is advanced to point where upload IS used more than in past.
Oh, I know it! I called the company and asked if there was anything with more than 20Mbps upstream. There isn't for my area, at least not yet. Maybe in the next couple of years we'll get fibre. (#fingerscrossed) Actually, our city is looking into municipal internet. I know two neighboring citiese have it, and one of them (where my sister-in-law lives) can do 1Gbps up/down even without fibre. Well, I don't know if it can actually do 1Gbps up, but on WiFi over there I got over 250Mbps up, which is more than enough for my purposes.

The really sad thing is that I have basically three options right now:
  1. 10Mbps down via CenturyLink for $85 per month. Hell no!
  2. TDS 1Gbps down/20Mbps up for $95 per month (what I'm using)
  3. Some wireless service (FFRI), maybe, but it's not quite available for my address, and it was expensive.
I suppose Elon Musk's StarLink is another option, if I hop on the waiting list, but that's $99 per month plus $550 in initial setup fees, for 50-150Mbps during the beta and intermittent outages. So yeah, that's not going to work either, but if long-term it can do 500Mbps or more symmetrical with no lapses, it's an option. I'll be checking on this in the future...

There is actually no reason, other than carriers refusal to upgrade their infrastructure, for North America to have anything less than 100/100.

A better option would be to build a time machine and stop the thousands of local and national politicians from selling out the consumers (aka The People) and allowing competition and the free market to flourish. Any town/city is luck if they have more than 2 choices -Comcast or AT&T. And most don't have that.
Same with mobile. Cricket,Boost and the rest are really just puppet companies of 1 of 3 carriers (AT&TSprint ,T-Mobile) monopolies that are trying to keep US customers from seeing they are monopolies.
