News Jaw-Dropping 34-Inch Quantum Dot OLED Gaming Monitor Gets a Huge Discount

For anyone concerned with OLED burn-in - especially when used for gaming or applications that have a static screen, the AW3423DWF uses an automated panel maintenance feature that refreshes the pixels to avoid permanent burn-in damage.

That just levels out the panel so it all dies at the same rate, shouldn't give comfort to anyone. However, this does:

Your monitor comes with a 3-year Advanced Exchange Servicei so that if a replacement becomes necessary, it will be shipped to you the next business day during your 3-year Limited Hardware Warrantyi. (Includes OLED-burn in.)

Though if it only lasts 3 years before burning in it's still an expensive brick.

I'm looking for an upgrade and this seems like a good one. Does anyone who actually owns this (or heavily used it, I suppose) know if this works as a productivity monitor or are things like text odd-looking because of the pixel layout?

It's discounted because Samsung's QD-OLED, which Alienware uses, is garbage with tons of artefacts.

Tomshardware should be ashamed of that "no flaws 5 star" review. Read Heise their review for a professional review.

"For anyone concerned with OLED burn-in...."

Burn in?? What is this, 1990 garbage Plasma or a $1000 OLED toy in 2023??

How come TV engineers in 2023 still have no solution for this but are still busy creating expensive toys that last 3 years, max??

A friend has this and hasn't had any problems, but I would say it will vary immensely based on what you're doing and how sensative you are to it. While I don't have this one I do have a 34" ultrawide and I very much wouldnt recommend a curved screen for productivity work. It's okay and it'll do in a pinch, but I wouldn't want to use it for anything but occasional.

OLED is quite a bit better than plasma longevity wise, but at the end of the day it's a shortcut to better response times, HDR and color reproduction. MicroLEDs are potentially the future of screen technology, but nobody has been able to efficiently produce them yet.

These displays aren't going to die in 3 years it's just that this is the warranty period. No TV carries more than a 1 year warranty and a lot of monitors are the same this is just the reality of how companies work today.

Hrrmmmph, my CURRENT monitor is a 32" Curved 2k (Also from Dell, the 3220DGF) , but it's NOT an ultrawide. I agree with you though, I wouldn't want an ultrawide. It's just not enough vertical real-estate since I code for work.

Thanks for reminding me that the C2 exists, but it's flaws have me waiting for a C3.

*EDIT

Holy cow, the C3 is out there already. Time to research!

Honest question, what flaws? I got one about 4 months ago on sale. Been amazing so far and easy to setup as an HDMI passthrough to my reciever and freesync to the PC. Also have two consoles hooked up to it and makes switching between simple.

I have seen mention of adds but I've never seen one. Then again I do use a pi-hole so see very few adds so that may be what's helping there

Sounds like we have a similar pihole setup, lol! I run one with an internal DNS resolver (unbound), and DNS leak tests are solid!

Anyways, my biggest gripe would be going from 165hz back down to 120hz.

I've had the gsync version since release in May. Originally I had my taskbar off to the side, not run in hdr due to win 10 not really functioning correctly. 4 months in with heavy monitor usage. 16 hours a days? I noticed a slight yellow ting where the taskbar is. I think I discovered this while looking at a game menu with a white background... Anywho I decided to hide the taskbar and the yellow ting did fade away over time.

In February I turned off my monitor and let it auto panel maintenance like usual. I turn it on later that evening and find a white vertical strip running up the monitor. I was extremely bummed. I contacted dell, they shipped a refurb out 2 day shipping which was very fast, BUT it was very poorly packaged. It came damaged and very dirty with dozens of finger prints all over it. I was completely shocked at what came. So I contacted Dell again to show that the monitor was damaged. They will not ship a replacement until they receive the damage one they shipped. This took quite some time due to ground return shipping. From my records, it shows they shipped the original replacement feb 16th. I received the second replacement the 24th. So about 8 days in total.

The second replacement which is a refurb has spots on the antiglare coating. I suspect all of them have this issue. I watched a video showing how to remove the coating but i'm hesitant to try it as I only notice them when there's a light source directly hitting the screen.

The later versions of this monitor have newer firmware that is much more aggressive with burn in prevention. I can visually see the pixels shift ever so often on this newer refurb. The original did not have this issue. Also I notice "RARELY" the monitor decides to not run gsync correctly (Fps shows 185fps in game and doesn't look like gsync visually is working). To remedy the problem, I have to power cycle or reopen the game. I didn't have this issue on the original. I'm wondering if it's a firmware bug that was introduced.

Besides that, this monitor is amazing on windows 11. I leave it on hdr 144hz in desktop sessions then set games to run 175hz 8bit hdr. I'm so happy with it. I will say the only thing that would make this monitor perfect would be more resolution and 240hz then it would be PERFECT! Maybe in a few more years.

Enough with the OLEDs. Give us quantum dot micro-LEDs, the final evolution of display technology!
My brother who's an electrician out in the Hamptons ran some power runs for a 146" micro-led samsung wall. He said you can feel the heat coming off it lol. His co-worker was complaining about the lines lol. 200k+ on a tv. insane... Some how I feel micro-led isn't going to be replacing oled monitors any time soon. Need to be more ppi

I use this monitor in blender and I don't have any issues. I do know some people complain about text fringing. I don't see it nor others who have seen my monitor. I wonder if some peoples eye are more prone to this issue than others. My eyes are good... I can clearly read text.

If I take a camera picture, I do see the fringing, but i also saw this fringing effect in pictures of my old Samsung VA panel ultrawide with the same size and resolution. So it makes me thing this artifact people are seeing is a resolution limitation.

I was also hesitant to buy this monitor, but a co-worker had an earlier model and he loves it.
He sometimes has issues with refreshing at inconvenient times, but I don't have that problem so it could be new firmware or that I turn it off at night and he doesn't. Also, I was worried about Dell quality having gone down hill. In the end I bought it and really love this monitor. Quality is good. Controls are decent (my BenQ had really bad controls) Comes with three year warranty which you can increase to 4 for $50. I don't notice the different pixel pattern either. Thumbs up.
