Join a Domain over internet failure

Hi guys, my DC has been relocated offshore, I have new PCs stateside intended for joining this domain. Right now they are all under WORKGROUP. I setup a VPN to the DC and I can connect, however I cannot join the domain, I lose internet when it does connect, and I cannot see my shared folders on the DC even when connected. Suggestions?

What version of windows? And sre you getting any type of error report
