Joining Hlaalu After Redoran

I killed the Dren character so I could talk to Duke Dren and
become a member of Hlaalu. It worked ok -- he made me grandmaster!
Already head of Redoran.
This particular character I am playing this time around has
completed the main quest as well as Bloodmoon and Tribunal MQs.
Anyway, I went to Hlaalu HQ in Balmora and started quests. The quest
giver there gives me the lower ranks, not Grandmaster?? I got the
quest to find killer of the guy in the house across the way. Went to
Council Club and there he was. The only thing is I killed all the
guys in there as part of the work from Ft. Moonmoth guy a long time
ago. Now all of them are back!. Went to Ft. Moonmoth, was able to
get work again to get rid of the "bad people", did it and got the ring
again. I wonder what will happen when I have to build a stronghold,
as it is already there. Hmm.

I had that as well, being Archmagister of House Telvanni :*) Actually he
only says he makes you Hlaalu Grandmaster, but if you check your
character sheet you see it's in fact a lower rank. This is documented in
the v1.2.0722 patch as a fixed bug (see readme.txt file in the Morrowind
directory), however I am running with that patch, so the fix is
obviously not fully working. To sum it up, you are not supposed to join
two houses. When I stumbled over this in the Duke Dren conversation, I
loaded an older savegame and skipped this dialog topic.

About another stronghold, won't work. The Duke won't give you the
construction contract a second time. The whole thing is documented here:
