Jumping from 1050p to 4K...?!

What's up guys. I'm getting a new machine in a couple of months, complete with new monitor.

The PC specs, are more or less clear, 4690k, 16GB of RAM, 290X (and another one in the future), 256gb SSD, and a HX1050 PSU from Corsair. I have to figure out the MB and the Case.

The question is... is too crazy to think about 4K with that setup? I would buy the Acer CB280K, it's 28 in, 60hz via DisplayPort, not bat image quality, 1ms response time (advertised, but they say it's good enough in reviews), and, of course, 3820x2160 resolution.

What do you think? would it be more sensible to stick with 1440p?

The thing is that with the 4k display, i should be able to display 1080p content very nicely because the scaler doesnt have to use crazy algorithms to present the stuff, just multiply the pixels LOL.

I know, a sole 290x is not enough for 4k, but what abour two of them, oc'ed, and without AA use?

I would stick to 1440p, currently 4k monitors can only support 60hz, but there are a few 1440p that support 144hz. You can super sample (via GeDoSaTo or, if AMD releases their own DSR) to a 4k and still enjoy 144hz, but you wouldn't be able to do anything higher than 60hz on a 4k monitor, even if you downgrade your resolution to 1440p. But your opinion may vary, as I can easily tolerate a decent TN panel over an IPS panel (I personally find IPS's black to be too black for gaming). I also personally do not like monitors that are too large, 27" is just about my maximum.

I personally use G1.Sniper Z97 for my mobo, using similar setup. Has everything I need and little of what I don't.

Thanks both for the answers. I think im gonna get a 1440p one.

I plan on buying two 290x, one now other a little later (as i did with my lovely pair of 5850's).

But, even with that ton of money on graphics, i could barely hover 60FPS in present games, wich means that i will probably have to play newer games at lower details... Wich sucks when youve pais like 700EUR in cards.

I love the 295X2, but here in Spain, the cheapest one is like 900EUR, when a 290x can go for 350.

BUT, and this is a BIG "but"...

If tomorrow i go to the mall and see the 4k tv's in person again... Ill probably change my mind. That image quality is just... Nuts LOL.

To be fair, ive never seen a 1440p display in person, well, yeah, the one in my LG G3, but tha doesnt count because is 5.5 in, and its impossible to spot a pixel (belive me, ive tried).

Oh, and thanks for the MB tip, i'll check it out.

i think you can buy r9 295x2 online on newegg at 650$
