Jumping from HD 6570 DDR3 to 6670 DDR5?

Is it worth it? I'm kinda regretting buying the 6570, but I just was wondering it is a better idea to make the move to it. I can't afford to upgrade my PSU, so I'm kind of considering it. Will it be a good idea, or should I just stick to what I got?

He wouldnt need a whole new pc
he could reuse HD,optical,GPU and maybe memory depending on CPU choice (though DDR3 is cheap)
The OP would need mobo case PSU and ram
HD,DVD and GPUs can be reused
(exception for DVD if it is slim style form factor which most Inspiron 530s were not)

with that said
The op will be fine for 1440x900 on medium to low settings
as he stated

at 1440x900 with medium to low settings the C2D with HD 6570 will play
most games fine

I have a 3ghx C2D with a HD 5670 and can play Crysis 2 at 1920x1080
DX9 Hardcore settings

so the HD 6570 is one tier below the HD 5670 so should be fine for 1440x900
medium settinds (even higher settings on some games)

DX11 games would push the card too hard but DX9 and DX10 games...

How much is it going to cost you to upgrade to HD 6670?

If you are familiar with overclocking video cards then OC the HD 6570
and use the money instead for PSU upgrade if possible
then later on you can go for higher level of card wattage

also depends how you use the computer
do you game and what games do you play if so?

I wanted to use it for lower tier gaming. I'm afraid to OC anything without proper guidance. Can I OC the card using AMD Overdrive safely?I've never done it before, so I'm afraid I might mess up and lose my computer altogether.

OCing with AMD overdrive is pretty safe
Set it to highest setting and try out a game
should be fine
AMD sets safe limits for OC

Would you have to buy the HD 6670 for full price?
or is it a return exchange?

Paying $90 for the HD 6670 wouldnt be worth it

but if you could exhange the card then do it

otherwise use the money for new PSU

If you need a fast upgrade i would be looking into a 6770 or 6790.

I've got a Dell stock 300w. Besides 100 bucks is not even enough as I don't have much to spend to even begin considering higher end cards. If it isn't worth it, I'll try OC by AMD Overdrive. Any tips for doing so other than raise by 5-10 Hz and scanning for artifacts?

What kind of "lower tier gaming" - I have a 6570 1GB DDR3 in my HTPC (best combo media/gaming card made in low profile IMHO - at least best without a huge load fan) and can play games like HAWX, F1 2010, etc at 1920x1080 on medium settings.

What other components do you have in your PC? I imagine it might be bottlenecking elsewhere, in which case a new GPU wouldn't be a huge improvement.

Nothing too demanding as of yet. I know I can run Crysis 2 with medium to low settings at my native resolution. I have things like Assassin's Creed, Test Drive Unlimited 2, Fallout: New Vegas, etc etc. Do I desperately need a CPU upgrade, or am I decent until I can afford a Core i5 2500k Sandy Bridge, or Phenom X6? I know I'd have to replace the Mobo to fit an AMD processor in since my computer was built by Dell on an Intel basis. But really, can I run most up-to-date at 1440x900 with my current setup on medium to low settings?

(As a side note, I moved from a 9500GT DDR2 1GB to HD 6570 DDR3 1GB. I'd say that's a nice jump.)

You have to replace the motherboard to fit a new intel or AMD chip - the Core2s used an older socket that nothing new fits. Also, most OEM pcs from big makers (dell, etc) won't fit standard off the shelf components. So when you want to upgrade to sandy bridge or phenom (I'd skip phenom and think Bulldozer), you'll basically need a whole new PC, ground up.

I think the problem is the overall system - a 6670 wouldn't give you much more performance from the GPU, but even going higher would be very bottlenecked by the the other components. From the way the RAM reported, I presume it's a 32 bit version of Vista? If it happens to be 64 bit, more RAM would be the easiest boost.

Sadly, I have the 32-bit system. Any other suggestions to improve performance, or am I pretty much screwed until I get a new comp/mobo? I won't try OC'ing as I'm afraid to touch it since the GPU is still under warranty as I've just bought it last week. Also, you say you can run F1 2010 at medium settings? Would I be able to at 1440x900 as well with my setup? (You didn't answer, so I ask again :) )

BTW I have OCd many cards and never had one go bad
the limits that AMD sets in Overdrive are meant to be on the safe side
just watch your temps and you will be fine
but I understand if you dont want to OC
but it is nothing to be scared of
the card will "shut off" and just need to be rebooted
before any damage can occur

King, I just watched an AMD Overdrive tutorial. So what would I do here, set it to max and test clock? If I were to set it to max, what fan speed percentage should I use? I need all the tidbits I can get before attempting something for the first time, as I'm the better safe than sorry guy. If I do happen to fry it, I have a backup card, but worse case it'll shut down and reboot?

Yes with a bad OC the display will freeze and you need to reboot

but Overdrive is made to be on the safe side of the OC limits

I would set the fan about 40 to 60 percent depending on how loud it is
that should keep your temps good unless your room temp is abnormally high
(over 75F)

test it with OD then apply
then run a game that is reasonably demanding but you know plays well

you could also download Furmark stress tester
http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

and run the stabiltiy test (about a half hour with no errors is usually good)
just watch your temps
dont let the card go over much higher than 80c

there are risks with OCing so do be cautious
but OCing GPUs is pretty easy nowadays

try a OC setting near the top of Overdrive limits see how that is
then if that is ok
then try your max Overdrive OC
and test

I just finished OC'ing my card. Currently running 50% fan speed with temp at 34C idle, around 45-50C under load of Test Drive Unlimited 2. Good temps?

for true performance consider an upgrade in future
first buy a good PSU
Antec and XFX make some nice ones for 50 and under
then go with a case
can find decent ones for $50
then go for mobo/CPU/ram
AMD AM3+ or Intel 1155
either one is good choice
AMD is easier to afford

an Phenom II x 4 840 is a good budget quad
955 BE is good choice for a little more
also I3 2100 is a good CPU to get into a budget intel 1155 build

but for now
you should be fine low res medium setting gaming

Should work, but you'll have to play with the visual settings to get it to be smooth, would be my guess.

I was thinking that he's already talking about getting a new GPU and that the DVD drive has a custom bezel on it to match the 530 case (as many dell's do) - so he'd be able to re-use only the HDD....and that after a reformat. Not that much basically. Most people would consider a new CPU/mobo/psu/ram/case + reformat of HDD to be a new PC 😉

but it is a pretty major upgrade the OP would be doing

The Inspiron 530 uses a standard ATX if I remember right
so could upgrade PSU and GPU for now
and then reuse in future build
but the OP said budget is low
so for now the OP is fine for low res medium setting gaming
maybe a 7670 in the future? LOL
