Check the specs on your video card and monitor. They should tell you what it supports.

I had a problem a while ago with my 17" Shamrock monitor not allowing anything but 60 Hz. I managed to find the right drivers and it works very well now at 85 Hz.

it will be a monitor problem.most 17" monitors can only do 1280X1024 at 60Hz but since yours is 19" it must be able to better.especially as it's a samsung.check on the drivers like holyshiznit suggested.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

Use the "plug and play mnoitor" driver for your monitor.

I use powerstrip. It works great specially for WinXP and games. Just choose a resolution then choose a refresh rate then enable the "lock refresh rate" and you're done. Anything you do in 1280x1024 (if that's what you chose) will be locked at 85Hz refresh rate.

Sorry, this is out of your question but, how about this monitor? I'm planning to buy a new one, that at least work at 1280x1024, good refresh rates, with small pitch, reliable, etc. Besides this issue (probably due to Windows XP that fix it at 60 if I'm not wrong), what about the rest? Do you recomend it?

Thanks in advance.

Well, Windows XP fix the refresh rate for "compatibility issues", so most people use software to unlock it. I'm not sure as I'm not using XP currently, but I think SP1 solves this issue.

Maybe a general search in the forums or in the net can give you some answers.

Hope this helps!

If you are running Win XP this is a built in BUG.Sp1 should resolve this problem.Or go to tomshardware.com and find links for Ati or Nvidia software to resolve this issue.Old bill gates really doesnt give a [-peep-] about consumers!

At least i solved this problem! desinstalling my Nvidia drivers (a beta version i think) i saw i coul get to 1600 x 1200, that was a lot for me, and when i installed the last drivers, i could put it to 2048! excellent, and about the refresh i have to activate "show modes not compatibles with the monitor" to get 85 Hz (the max was 75).

Thank you a lot, now i think ill try powerstrip for my card.

thanks again!
