Just a little confused..

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently in the market to purchase a new SSD for my MacBook Pro. I live in Australia, so i buy all of my parts from here.

I was initially going for a 240GB drive, however i was having a look at their SSDs when i noticed this.

The 480 GB drive is $489.00.. instead of something ridiculous like $800.00

Is this an older generation or something along those lines?

The 480 GB drive has these specs:
Price: $489.00
Performance:
Sequential Read (up to): 540 MB/s
Sequential Write (up to): 460 MB/s
Random Read (up to): 44,000 IOPS
Random Write (up to): 46,000 IOPS
MTBF: 1.4M hrs

Where as the 240 GB drive has these specs:
Price: $249.00
Performance:
Sequential Read (up to): 550 MB/s
Sequential Write (up to): 520 MB/s
Random Read (up to): 39,000 IOPS
Random Write (up to): 83,000 IOPS
MTBF: 2.0M hrs

There's gotta be a catch in here somewhere. And it looks like its the Random read and write IOPS. What do you guys think?

In the United States on Newegg.com the same drive goes for $579.99.
So you're able to get it for roughly $91.00 cheaper.

Doesn't seem fishy or anything? I can always return it. I'd just rather not have to go through all of that.

Also, usually Australians get a 40-60% markup on everything we buy. It's terrible. This is why i have a few concerns about the price of this product.

No, it's a SATA 3 (6Gb/s) drive so it's at least a 3rd generation SSD.

The IOPS are different in that review. But never mind, i'm sure it won't be THAT much of a difference.

Sorry, none of the reviews on the link I provided were for the 480GB drive. They are for the 120GB & 240GB drives.

You'll have to do some additional research to see if there are any issues with the 480GB drive.
