just bought 9800pro

hi ppl ive just bought myself a his excalibur radeon 9800 pro and im wondering whether i made a good purchace...

i bought it from pc world for £299 which is about £20 more than the cheapest i could find on the net....it has a 380mhz ramdac and 400mhz 128ddr mem

i bought it as it has a heatsink very similar to the siluro otes which i know got a good writeup....any advice would be great oc'ing best catalyst drivers etc...cheers

Ramdac is 400MHZ not 380.

Do you mean 380mhz VPU/CORE? That would sound right, I think you have the two switched. And that memory speed doesn't sound right at all.

HIS is OK quality, and if it was around the same price as your average R9800PRO in your area, then it's an OK choice. If it's an ICE-Q version then it's a very good choice.

As for overclocking. Try Rage3Dtweak first with its built in overclocking utility, it's a little more forgiving/flexible than RadLinker/Clocker.

yup...its is an ice q platinum version hence why i bought it...looks to have very good overclocking ability....

and yeah ive got it mixed up...the ramdac is 10bit 400mhz and the core is 380 mhz

dont know what memory its got...fingers crossed its samsung...

thanks for the link...what freq do you think i can get out of her then?

its got an exhaust system and all the chips have heatsinks on them and for £20 more that a standard one i wasnt going to argue

just installed rage3d and the core is at 378mhz wqhile the memory is 337.50 but one problem..it keeps changing my brightness controls i set every time i boot...how do i stop it from doing this?

Dude, what PC World did you buy this from!??? Every store I have gone into the best card they have is a 5800Ultra for £299! and they even still have the cheek to sell a kyro 2 card for £99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thats about $160USD for all you Americans) I look at HDD's they want £130 for an 80Gb 5400rpm drive when I bought a 120Gb 7200rpm WD Caviar SE with 8mb cache for about £70 in delivery! GOD they fcuk me off!

i bought this in the truro,cornwall branch....its only been there a few days....they still have one more in stock...
ive done some reading and its overclockable to more than 9800xt speeds so im quite impressed...it uses 2.8ns samsung memory too...quite a find

I'm not sure but here's the best review I've seen on it (from theGURUof3D). They got 432/380(760) stable. There's also a link to RivaTuner in that article. That's what they used to overclock.

PS, you can also try using special Drivers/tweaks when you feel comfartable with the baseline. Check my Catalyst sticky at the top of the threads. I have linked to the Omega and DNA drivers.
