I remember being killed here for some parts I ordered my first time around. Well, our family PC burnt during bad weather few days ago so I bought YET ANOTHER ONE.

My budget was $500 and I ended up paying $455 with tax ($0) and not including $35 in Rebates....

the parts:

Corsair 650W
Antec 300
Athlon 7850
Gigabyte MA790X
Radeon 4850
G. Skill 4GB DDR2 800

Please tell me whether this was a better decision than last time! I spent 2.5 hours finding ways to decrease cost and add performance (actually went from 4830 to 4850 for $7 less with a promo code)

Mainly used for web surfing, e-mail, and brother gaming (will take out 4850 for myself and give him 9800GT since my monitor has higher resolutions)

Here's hoping I learned something since last time!

Drives were salvageable...

zipzoomflyhigh...you live in Champaign, Illinois then? :) My mom, when she heard the lightning, thought someone was shot outside our apartment.

my last build was:

PCPC610W
MA790X-UD4P
Phenom720
Antec300
OCZ Reaper DDR2 1150
Geforce 9800GT
Seagate Barracuda 250GB
19" Asus Monitor

for $800!

Didn't even fill out rebates...this time I will definitely do so!
