Can someone please help me out and tell me why pictures of people look smeared, reddish and you can barely make out any detail? Ive changed the settings over and over but i ant seem to get the colors / image quality right. I have it connected using a dvi cable.

Solution
I am sorry, I do not know more details. Have you tried applying the changes as shown in the reviews above?

Yes they are from different reviews, but the OSD menu is probably the same, so they might apply here too. Check the best color presets section, it says something about standard mode, user color temperature and gamma 1.

Check here with pictures : http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_xl2420t.htm

You have every right to demand better image quality. My point is that, unfortunately, this kind of picture quality is to be expected from BenQ gaming monitors. Only its new 1440p with Freesync seems to break the rule, and even this needs some manual changes.
No kidding, it is a typical 60Hz TN, what did you expect? Especially since BenQ has a tradition of ruining the color presets in favor of "gaming" advantage.
Anyway, if it is too late to exchange it, here are the usually best color settings.

Hope it helps.

I've read so many great things about this display I didn't think it would look this bad. I don't care if its tn ips led HDTV crt blah blah the colors and such should look the way they do out of the box. Thank you for responding btw but the links you provided are for a different benq and to be honest I have no idea how to set the monitor based on the links you provided .

im too undecided. This monitor just looks off to me. Im really leaning toward returning it to amazon. would you have any suggestions in max $190 for gaming and general use?

That monitor looks nice and has some decent reviews but I've read about it having some ghosting and that because the monitor has HDMI it range is limited to 235. Are these true issues ?

According to pcmonitors.info, at normal response time setting there is no inverse ghosting and this setting is totally fine with gaming.

If you mean about the limited sRGB issue with HDMI, there is an easy fix: https://pcmonitors.info/articles/correcting-hdmi-colour-on-nvidia-and-amd-gpus/

OK I bought the Dell and I'm shipping back the Benq. The Dell should arrive tomorrow and I will give it a go. I'm hoping it's better than the Benq. Thank you for your input .

It will be, do not worry. If for any reasons it has quality control issues, just ship it back and exchange it, it can happen with any monitor.

About the brightness adjustment of the BenQ, it was the effect of the Dynamic Contrast feature.

thank you for your help. I love the new monitor. The colors arent as vibrant as i thouht but i guess i just have to try and raise the saturation in ccc or something,. thank you very much

its not a very expensive monitor and its not that bad using a dvi the best cable for this screen.
just think about it the price and hows the colors compared to that price you will love it 😉
i got confused maybe more than you but now im using a dvi-d cable and ( PHOTO ) setting it gives you the best colors try it out.
and remember its a gaming monitor so it will look better playing games than the colors of your desktop.
