Just built a PC but motherboard will not start up

Today i put together a new PC. I followed all the instructions in the manuals, and everything seemed fine. I go to turn it on and everything but the motherboard will start. All the fans work, but the motherboard will only run for half a second then shut off.

NOTE: I put on the standoffs after trying to turn it on the second time

Who knows what could have shorted if you tried to start the system the first time without standoffs installed. Hopefully the motherboard safety measures worked and no components were damaged. We have a troubleshooting checklist for problems like this. Perform all the steps in the checklist an let us know how it goes. There's a link to the checklist in my signature.

you really should have used the standoffs, what are your specs anyways.
