Just built first system...but NO SOUND

Just got new system up and running with everything going smooth except sound. I am getting no BIOS sounds nor any in windows. The setup is the following:

I have updated sound drivers to latest version, it shows no error in device manager. Any help on troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

[update] Win 7 installed a device called High Definition Audio Device. When I look at the
audio devices, I see a Digital Output Device (SPDIF) and clicking properties
tells me that I only have an option for a rear panel optical jack. I do not
have a digital audio system.
