A friend just gave me his old i7 with a load of parts, looking to build it up this weekend but unsure what parts to go for, in terms of what I'll be using it for - I'm a Graphic Designer using mostly Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro & After Effects - No real plans for gaming to be honest - Currently using a Macbook Pro i7 2.0ghz 2013 for work.

Here's a list of what I've been given:

  • Intel Core i7 920 (will overclock)
ASUS Rampage II Extreme with SupremeFX Sound Card
AMD ATI Radeon HD 5850 PowerColor 1gb
    Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB 1866mhz (4 x 4GB)
    Corsair H50 Quiet CPU Cooler
These are the parts I’ve been considering:

  • Case - Fractal Define S / NZXT s340
PSU - PSU Calculator Says it should be around 400w, however my friend ran a 650w and recommended me to do the same) EVGA 600 W 80+ PC Power Supply Unit / Corsair VS500 / EVGA 650 W G2 GOLD
    SSD/HDD - Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
    Fans - Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition 120mm x2
Are there parts you could recommend? Reckon it's worth changing the GPU? Looking to keep it cheap but if it's worth spending the extra money I can stretch my budget a little.

Solution
don't consider AF120 QE 120mm fans. they used to be alright but can't compete with the only marginally more expensive better competition (Cougar, Noctua, BeQuiet)

except for the EVGA G2 those are all low quality supplies.
an EVGA G2 / G3 / GS, XFX TS, Corsair RMx, any Seasonic or Super Flower should do fine.
