I could be dumb about this i have a gigabyte h110 iv'e had it for a while i started with a g4400 3.3ghz and moved up to a i5 7600k 3.8-4.2ghz my question is why can't a h110 overclock it's clear it can handle higher speeds and power delivery i'm thinking it's intel not wanting people to spend 70 dollars and get something decent

Solution
If you wanted to OC, then you have to buy appropriate hardware.
If you want to go cheap, then live without OC.

BTW - don't expect OC to give you miracles. Usually performance gain is not worth the expenses.

I disagree if you want to overclock you have to buy a mobo where intel flipped the switch to allow overclocking, there is very little hardware difference between say a H270 and Z270 board. There is nothing about the VRM on the vast majority of cheap H110 mobo's that will not allow for at least a mild overclock, besdies intel just not allowing it. AMD for example allows overcloking on all of it's ryzen mobo's.

Intel is just stingy and wants you to buy an expensive k chip that is in no way different from comparable non k chips besides having an unlocked multiplier. And if you buy that expensive k chip you also need to buy a Z mobo to overclock it.
