I just ordered a laptop from Dell,an Inspiron 9100. And have a little time before they start building it to change my order.

Here are my specs

p4 2.8 ht
128 radeon 9700
512 ram 400mhz
4x dvd burner
40gb hdd

total price 1637.00

Is there anything i should add/change that would improve speed or the monitor? If not just let me know as I'd like to not spend too much more cash as I'm already over my limit.

I have no idea how big a difference the wuxga from the wxga, etc. I've also heard that switching the Hdd to 7200 is actually more beneficial to adding more rram.

So what would be the ONE thing I could change to improve the visuals/performance that I would see the biggest gain from?

Thanks

What do you plan on doing with it? If it’s gamming then the ram would be better then the HD. If it’s something like Photoshop and you and you don’t usually have images over 150 meg open, then a HD could improve performance. Just think about what you’re currently doing, if where ever you want better performance no HD activity is going on (Playing games) then the HD won’t help much.

Your system looks good. One thing I would make sure though is that the 512 is 1 stick of ram. You don’t want to have to throw that 512 away in order to upgrade to 1 gig. ATM 512 is fine, but before the life of that laptop is over you might want 1 gig.

I would look to see if it can support 12 cell battery. See the laptop I m looking at is Intel 3.4ee L3 2 megs But the battery Life is 1.5 Hours. That if I get the 8 cell battery. And there a upgrade 12cell battery 3 Hours would be great I live a hour away from the doctors or my sisters. It gives me 1 Hour going down there 1 Hour going up and 1 hour for traffic.

The specs that you have listed sound OK.

Make sure you are supplied with the OEM or Full OS software. Not the "repair only" CD.

That laptop has dual channel DDR400. You can only order it in 2 DIMM configs. Dell always gives the Windows insatall cd and all your drivers on seperate cds. They dont stick you with a restore/repair cd.

Its a nice laptop, I'd reccommend a 60GB 7200rpm tho :)

Ya don't say? Is that so?
Edited by PCFreak15 on 03/24/04 02:03 PM.
