Just Purchased a 1800FP, Was this a stupid idea?

Sup all,

I have been reading through the forums for about a week about the LCD monitors, especially for gaming. I was really impressed with the CML174, 1800FP, 1702FP, and the VG171b from viewsonic. In the end i decided to go with the 1800FP because dell was having some ultra sale with 10% off and free shipping. Right now i have an old NEC Multisync M700 that was around back in 1996-97 so i am in need of an upgrade. I just wanted to know if anyone had this monitor and if they liked it or not. This will be plugged into a GV-9700 Pro so the DVI should give it some nice graphics, especially in games. I still have time to cancel the order if anyone has any horror stories about it. Thanks for the input in advance.

Someone I work with has one. It's very nice. The design is a bit clunky (don't know if they've changed that at all), so it doesn't look very slick, but I haven't noticed any real problems with it.

Haven't had a chance to use it for any REAL work (like UT2K3), so i can't really say much about ghosting or gaming problems.

In my opinion the 1800fp is very nice. However, I am disappointed in 1 thing. I dont know if it's just the technology or a problem with my monitor. My monitor has trouble displaying some text in WORD, EXCEL, IE, etc. Please do this test and let me know if you have the same problem. 1) Open WORD. 2) type the word - Thursday; the default style: normal, font: new times roman, size:12. So far so good, the word Thursday should be displayed very nice and sharp and clear. 3) Now select the whole line. The letters are now white and the background is black. 4) change the font size to 16. This is where trouble begins. Some letters (especially the s) are nolonger nice and white, but have some light black smuge. If you click anywhere in the WORD document, to make the letters appear in black, it looks as if someone took a pencil eraser to some parts of some letters. Please let me know if you have the same problem. THANKS!

Check pcworld.com for the Feb 2003 issue. They review 19" LCDs and mention a difference in text display between LCDs and CRTs. Has to do with shape of pixels - that might explain the fuzzy experience.
