Question Just RMA’d my 10gb 3080 - what should I expect as a modern equivalent?

As the title suggests, my GPU has been faulty for probably longer than I noticed, and finally RMA’d the card. Scan (UK Company) tested the card and found it faulty and have told me they will be in touch.

I was wondering what I could expect in return as the GPU is now end of life? I’m not super savvy these days on the latest components.

In Nvidia terms then a 4070 is very similar in performance to a 3080. They trade blows depending on the game and resolution.

A 4070 super is more around the 3090 in terms of performance.

Have Scan stated they will swap for a modern equivalent?

Edit : scan still have refurbished 3080s on sale so you may well end up with a like for like swap depending in what the warranty states

Your most likely return will be another 3080. They try to send back the same card you had so long as they still have them in stock. If they don't, then you'll likely get a 4070 or 4070 super as it's replacement. There is an outside possibility that they have a ton of 4080's or 4080 supers, so it's not impossible that you could get one of those as a replacement. But I wouldn't count that as a certainty.

Yeah, I was on with their tech support today, they told me that they’d be in touch with options but would be providing a modern equivalent as the 3080 was end of life. I assume they must have none left in their warehouse anywhere.

I’m more curious that anything, as long as I get a card of similar performance i’m happy!

Ah ok well then I would push if you can for a 4070 super out of the two although as mentioned a 4070 is still a good card and will offer you the same performance as the 3080. You would get an extra 2GB of vram as well plus reduced power draw so all in all not a bad situation to be in.

Only things to consider are that if you do get a 4070 super then it will use the new power adapter. The card will come with one but depending on your case and aesthetic then the standard ones can look a little ugly in my opinion. Power draw will be lower but out of interest what psu are you using?

I’ll be sure to push my luck as much as I can, thanks for the suggestion.

I just actually upgraded my PSU as my old one died, been an unlucky month for me as the GPU started running hot not long after. I bought an MSI MAG A850GL

No worries. I use scan a lot myself and they have always been pretty good so hopefully you get it sorted ASAP.

Thr PSU failure and subsequent gpu issued could be related especially ao close together. These things often happen together to spoil the party but it looks like you are nearly there.

Keep the thread going until you get the card and manage to test it just in case anything further is needed.

Yeah I figured it was too much of a coincidence.

Thanks I shall do, appreciate all the replies!
