hi,

I have just done a rebuild fully from my old FX 8320 that i was running at 4.0ghz to an i5 4590 non K. Everything's up and running it it looks good BUT....

I was kinda expecting a lot of increases in fps but its not been so!!! my 3dmark score was around 2300 with the FX but with the i5 its just over 2100. Its the same with a few games ive tried ive more or less had to keep the same(ish) settings from before, Titles like fallout 4 - mafia 3

What i want to know was i expecting too much? or is it a case of trying out many titles to see any benefits its not been a day yet so ive a lot of testing and gaming to be done.

Im hoping i get increases in arma 3

thanks.

edit: specs

i5 4590 + ID cooling halo
16gb ram
gtx 970 ssc

3dmark can provide a guesstimate but it isn't a game. Games are all different, some are more cpu intensive while others are more gpu intensive. Techspot did some benchmarking with a titan to isolate the cpu performance without being gpu bottlenecked and i7's, i5's and fx 8350 @ 4ghz all performed similarly.

i7 4770k (3.5ghz) - 53fps
i5 3570k (3.4ghz) - 51fps
i5 3470 (3.2ghz) - 50fps
fx 8350 (4ghz) - 48fps

There seemed to be some performance gain with clock speed and a 4590 only has so much clock speed. The i7's are clocked faster out of the box and when overclocked, fps increased. Have you checked using something like msi afterburner while gaming to see which is reaching 100% and which isn't, the cpu or gpu? That should help determine where the limiting factor is for that game.

From this review of fallout 4, you should be reaching higher fps with the i5 than the previous fx 8350.
