So I've been having issues with my GPU i.e. it broke and needed to be returned.

Instead of fix it or give me another one they decided to refund me.

The issue is GPUs are now going up in price thanks to currency miners and the price of even the same model are higher than they were when I bought this one, so I'm going to have to pay more money to get another card.

So now I'm wondering since I have to pay out more money whether to get another 1060 or upgrade to a 1070.

Naturally the 1070 will require me to add on £200 to the price but will it really be worth it? I have a 1440p screen so I'll probably be pushing games at that resolution. My previous 1060 did well at 1440p but obviously 1070 will do even better and probably last a lot longer.

But the question is SHOULD I? I'm not asking for you to choose for me I'm just wondering what you guys think.

Solution
It all depends I guess on what £200 is worth to you. If it is a lot of money, then stay with the 1060 and reduce settings if/when necessary. Probably won't be all that often depending on the games you play. But if £200 is pocket change, then definitely go for the 1070.
Another factor to consider is your gaming requirements. If you are all about fps and play at low settings to get the most out of the card, then you can live with the 1060. If you like eye candy, you'll probably wish you'd have bought the 1070.

Btw, there didn't used to be that big of a gap in price between those two cards. But with the crypto-miners...

Yeah tell me about it. The difference between 1060 and 1070 isn't actually £200 that is just the EXTRA money I'm going to have to pay to make up the difference if I bought a new 1070.

Current 1060s are sitting around £280 - 320. 1070s about £400. So are about £80 - 120 more.

The issue is when I bought my GTX 1060 six months ago it was £220. So to get to a 1070 today it would be like £180 extra on top of my refund money.

More of an issue at the moment is FINDING one in stock. Damn near every GPU supplier in the UK is completely out of stock of pretty much every card.

Probably be a good idea to get a 1070 just to be able to last out this storm.
