Just wondering about 2 cards

I'm getting a 6850 for my pc build this december but my questions is about the 5770

I've been checking around and it seems to have almost the same performance as the 6850 my question is could this be used as a good subsitute for the 6850 if i need to rma it or should i just go with the 5770. thanks for any help.

if you're getting this card in December, so you should get one of the 7K AMD series they offer twice the performance, low power consumption and the price of the low end model will equal the price of HD 6850

The challenger will fit any graphics card.

according to AMD, the new technology is said to be XDR2 which is 5x faster than GDDR5, and the 28n technology will reduce the power consumption and heat, check this out

any word about pricing yet. XDR 2 only seems to be the 2 higher en 79xx's though.

oh yes sorry, twice as fast as GDDR5, no word about prices yet

But what i also saw was they they will be running on the new PCIe 3gen slots which is gonna mean new mobos to. if this is true then that means i'll have to rethink this build down the line but its a budget build not really lookings to get top of the line not for a little while atlease.

Not really, PCIe 2.0 was backwards compatible with 1.0, so I don't know why PCIe 3.0 wouldn't be backwards compatible as well.

Graphics cards haven't even saturated PCIe 2.0, so I doubt there will be a big enough performance bump in this next generation to finally saturate PCIe 2.0.

I would wait. I know I am definitely interested to see what AMD has to offer this fall/winter.

Just have to wait and see this november if it comes out then if not i'll have to go with my intel build for december and just get 1 6850 and 2 5770's duno y seems like the 5770's would be a good replacement card for my 6850 and give me a chance to try out cross fire to.

I have to wonder why you are trying to crossfire the 5770s?

The single card solution will save you a lot of hassles in drivers/compatibility issues that are known with xfire and sli setups, especially if the 6850 gives similar performance to the xfire setup.

Not to mention the 6000 series has improved tessellation, more features and is more power efficient than the 5000 series.

If nothing else, the prices will drop and you'll save a few bucks by waiting.

true probaly in 3 months the price will drop a good amount and the rating will improve as well to help decide which is good reliable one to go with right now i've been suggested the XFX 6850
