Hi,

This is my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dkLY2R

I was wondering if I should get an i5 7600K instead of the 6500, or get a GTX 1070 instead of an GTX 1060.

My main uses of this PC will be (most common uses first):

- X-Plane (http://www.x-plane.com)
- Unreal Engine 4 Game Development
- Visual Studio (.NET and C#) programming
- General/casual gaming
- Heavy multitasking

Thanks :)

I'm not sure where you're from so local pricing may be different (it seems Australia from the pcpartpicker list). However usually the price difference between an i5 and i7 is similar or less than the price difference between a gtx 1060 and 1070. If upgrading the 1060 to a 1070 is doable and within budget and you're already planning on an i5, how is an i7 200+ over budget?

Looking at Australian prices, the i5 6500 is around $298 aud and the i7 7700 is around $444 aud for a difference of $146 aud. The 1060 you listed in your build is $413 aud and the cheapest 1070 is $583.20 aud for a difference of $170.2 aud. I'm just confused how the i7 is $200 over budget when the cost of that upgrade is less than the gpu upgrade which is within your...

I would keep it the way it is except you do not buy the memory in 4 individual sticks you buy a 2X8GB set sold in one package that has been tested to work together. This also allows you to have 2 slots open for upgrades.
For what your doing I would upgrade to a i7 7700K processor before upgrading the video card and might even consider 32GB of memory.
I use my PC for similar programs and use a i7 4790K, GTX 980, and 32GB of memory.

Hello,

Thank you for your comments. As you both suggested, I should get an i7 7700K, but the problem is it's $200+ over budget. Are there any other decent CPUs around that are economical?

I'd agree on the ram, you're likely to have more issues with 4x 4gb sticks of ram. Better to go with 2x 8gb sticks, less chance of issues getting them to work together and leaves you 2 slots open in the event you want to add ram later. There's no benefit to going 4x 4gb.

Thanks, and I actually just realized that the i7 may be in budget. However, I'll have to cut down on the RAM and a few other things.
